CHAPTER SEVEN

A FEW MORE MONTHS HAVE PASSED AND I WAS NOW moved into my new apartment, which my mom had already furnished. I was at the end of my pregnancy with my baby girl and have been calling Jerome for hours since I told him I was going to the hospital. I was very irritated and wanted for him to be by my side when I went in. Yet Jerome was being Jerome again, talking about he needed to go and turn up for the birth. That was hours ago before I even came to the hospital. I decided to call my mom and have her come and be with me instead, at least this way I wasn’t going to go through birth alone.

“Thanks for being here with me mom.” I say to her.

“Baby, you know I was going to come up here after I got off work. I have to be here to support you as you get ready to bring my first grandbaby into the world.” She says putting her feet up on the couch getting comfortable.

“First? This will be your only from how strong these contractions are getting.” I say through deep breaths.

“You are doing fine. So when is Jerome supposed to be up here?” My mom asks.

“Um, I don’t know, he said he was on his way when I talked to him, but that was earlier.” I say trying not to sound too down.

“Well I hope he gets here soon so I can go ahead home and get some sleep. I still have to get up to be back to work in the morning.” My mom said yawning as she pressed the button to turn on the TV. I just hoped that she was right, because I really did want him to be there with me; maybe he made a couple of stops before making his way here and was still on his way.

The contractions were coming closer and closer and my mom was really starting to get on my nerves telling me how much it didn’t hurt for her to have me. Another comment like that and I was going to kick her out my room and tell her she can go on home. Before I popped my top Jerome walks into the room with a big smile on his face.

“Oh hey, you made it.” I say relieved.

“I told you that I was coming, I couldn’t miss this day.” He says nodding his head at my mom in acknowledgment.

“How are you doing Jerome?” My mom says flatly to him, still not really taking to him because she felt something negative within him.

“I’m good ma’am how are you?” He asks in return. My mother simply nods in return and starts grabbing her purse and belongings.

“Alright, well my time here is served. I will come back here tomorrow to check on you, and I will be calling to see if you had the baby yet. If you have her before I call please let me know.” My mom says while putting on her coat.
